ParticipantI have the Hotpoint WF840p Washing machine the one with the LED display on the front and fully electronic.
I know it has a programmable eprom chip inside which an engineer can load the software onto the machine from his laptop but what I was wondering is that if a Hotpoint Engineer (or anyone who fixes the Hotpoint Ultima WF range of washers) could advise if they have only ever produced one version of software for a particular machine or have they bought out ‘updates’ since the machine was first sold to add features and sort out any problems?
I work with Computers and I know there are always updates on BIOS chips for PC’s and firmware for peripherals and also they even bring out firmware updates for DVD recorders so I was just wondering if they (Hotpoint) have bought out firmware updates for their Ultima WF series washing machines that an engineer can load?
Thanks,

First things first, ‘they (Hotpoint) are in fact, they, the Indesit Company, the problems with the various eeproms on Indesit machines is a real pain in the backside for most of us. The list of all the various eeproms for the whole of the Indesit/Hotpoint/Creda/Ariston range runs to several pages. The Hotpoint engineers are supplied with blank eeproms that they can load the required info onto, it should follow that any updates could also be done in the same way.
Unfortunately none of this information or the required hardware is available to the independant trade. 😥
I don’t know the exact figures but I hear that failure within the first few months due to the Indesit type electronics now used in the Hotpoint machines has greatly increased. 😥
With reference to your ‘extensive’ web site, I have one or two comments regarding your suggested improvements. To soundproof the motor is not a good idea, it needs to be allowed to cool itself and is not a source of major noise. You have to remember that if you had bought a machine to this specification from Hotpoint/Hoover or similar, more than 20 years ago it would have cost you well over £400 then. Fast forward to today and all your improvements will not be implemented for one reason only, cost. you can have all the features you desire today, but as we here are fond of saying, ‘ you only get what you pay for’ buy a higher priced Bosch or Siemens or better still a Miele and you will have a solid, quite, reliable machine.

Thanks for your reply. Points noted about my website I must update the bit about the soundproofing around the motor housing. i didn’t take into account about the ventilation.

No problem, in fact if you have an hour or so to spare you could knock up a website for me to rival that 😉 . My very basic web site is something I did many years ago when I stumbled across a version of MS Frontpage Express on an old PC running Win95. I would be more than willing to recompense you for your efforts. 🙂 -
