ParticipantHi,
I have a F&P dishwasher double chassis (BUM736146) Part no. 88820. The top drawer has decided to stop working totally. Normally the drawer turns on when opened but this no longer happens. The bottom drawer is still functioning. Would this be the switch on the rails? It does ‘clunk’ rather than ‘click’? I have had the drawer off but there are no obvious things hanging off or missing. This top drawer was also quite noisy (think a piece of glass was stuck in the impeller part of the drain/fill ‘thingy’ in the middle of the drawer. It has never full drained (both drawers) since we have been using it (came with the house).November 4, 2013 at 4:48 pm #403908johnmac11

Check the RH side of the display to see if there is a padlock symbol there, if there is hold the RH button for a few seconds and the padlock will disappear and the dish drawer should work.
If the display is dead it will probably be the heater plate that is faulty.

Hi John,
No padlock symbol. That’s the first thing I thought of but alas its not that easy! Is the heater plate something I could replace myself? I am an engineer by trade and pretty handy at fixing things but have very little experience with dishwashers. Would a heater plate just shut down the drawer? It shows no fault code just no power getting to display. I have a multi-meter so how could I check for a feed?

Changing a heater plate is one of them jobs that you have to see being done before you could attempt the job, the tub has to be stripped completely to get at it, I know appliance engineers who won’t take this one on so I would suggest getting someone to do it for you.
If the heater plate goes open circuit it kills the power to the drawer, to get access to test the heater plate involves stripping down the tub.
