    Happy New Year all!

I have a F&P DW920 Dishwasher. It is about 10 years old and has been recently been leaving dried food on the dishes.

My theory is the water is dirty when it commences the drying cycle, thus the particles dry onto the dishes.

I have pulled the machine apart, it is all clean inside and the pumps, Circulation and Drain, appear to be in good condition with no apparent faults. The Drain Pump is like a stepper motor, it doesnt spin freely – sort of indexes on magnetic resistance, I ran it with 240V applied and it seems to work ok. You can hear it run and water exit to drain.

The rotor arms are not blocked, I used compressed air to clean them out thoroughly. The Rotor Arm thrust bearings are original, but I could not see them being that worn to create a large leak that might prevent the arms from rotating. I could be wrong…

Using Finish Power Ball tablets & Rinse Aid. Have run the cleaners thru the machine with no change.

Another clue is the water level, I think it isn’t filling up far enough. If I open the door when the water valve shuts off, the water is about 10mm below the heater.

From what I can glean from websites is the Circulation Pump determines the fill level from the current required to turn the motor. The Circulation Pump Motor seems to turn freely as you would expect a motor to turn, so this could be a problem that is not ‘fixable..’

I have been adding about 4 litres of water to the machine after the water valve shuts off to cover the element, this improves the wash quality a little. The other consequence of this is when the dishwasher is opened at the end of the cycle, there is no burnt smell which I was getting previously.

Would appreciate any advice, not the time of year to have to buy a new dishwasher!

    Thanks!

Re: Fisher & Paykel Dishwasher DW920 – Dried Food on Dishes

Looks like everyone’s on holidays, and I’m getting desperate…

Can someone tell me the cycles of a Dishwasher? This thing just has a digital readout which tells how long it has to go, nothing else.

    My guess:

Fill – level monitored by current on Circ Pump
(my problem is the fill shuts off too early – low water level)
    Fill Shut Off
    Water heated by element
Circ pump circulates water / washes dishes
Drain: Dirty water pumped to drain
Rinse: (Repeat Fill Cycle & Circulation)
    Drain:
    Dry

    Thats it?

I think my problem is relating to lack of/low water level rinse cycle?

There is not much of a filter in these, a perforated circular mesh thing about 12″ diameter, and a coarse plastic strainer on the inlet to the pump, there is nothing to get out food particles that I can see…

Pump & Motor costs $A180 / new DW is about $600…

    any ideas?

    Just an update – Help!!!

I have no idea what is wrong, unless the whole machine is just worn out, 10 years isn’t bad I suppose…
