Fisher & Paykel E4428 Error Code

Hi there
We have a three year old Fisher & Paykel Inox fridge/freezer model E442B.

Yesterday it started making a constant regular beeping noise. Reading the manual we managed to stop the beeping by pushing one of the temp change buttons inside but the refrigerator compartment is no longer cold. The freezer is still working.

The indicator for the top compartment is slowly flashing inside the fridge – according to the manual this is an error code but the manual doesn’t tell us what it actually means.

We spent 7 hours hanging around at home today for a service technician to turn up but nobody arrived. Fisher & Paykel now say the next available appointment is four days away.

Does anybody have any idea what the slow continous flash of the top compartment indicator might mean? I’d hate to wait for half a week without a fridge to find out it was something I could have fixed easily myself.

We have tried turning the power to the fridge off and on and it just starts the beeping as soon as you turn it back on.

As far as I can tell, it means that it has given up trying to do the defrost cycle after several attempts. Defrost heater failure is most likely culprit.

I’ll try having a look to see if I can find the defrost heater.
