    Hi everyone
Have just replaced motor control unit and the agitator will go a bit one way and then a bit the other. Seem to have size mode OK as well.
Everything else works ok and have checked the pump for blockages, oob for sticking and lid switch for correct operation.
Getting an error code of 9.
At my wits end and thinking of using it as a planter in the garden.
    Any help appreciated

    9 is the size error.

For your machine, set the size by holding down Temp Up, then press Power. Wait for the 4 beeps. Press Spin Speed Up, Spin Hold lamp should light. Power off, then attempt a wash.

    Thanks Penguin for your reply.
Have checked the size with Diag. Mode level 4 and all is as it should be.
Diag. Mode level 3 still tells me I have a 9 error and when I power off I get all the wash lights now staying on( flashing ) and only way to stop them is to unplug.
The functions all work but as I stated in earlier post it seems to be the agitator action that is suffering

    Help 🙁

Re: Fisher & Paykel gw708 motor problem ?

Error code can be stored for up to 8 washes after the fault has been corrected……. Faulty motor action can be caused by a few things. The rotor position sensor can cause all sorts of problems. It can get wet, it can go faulty, it can suffer from chafed wiring – however, any of these should produce a new fault code.

Bigsmokepiker will no doubt wander in in a while and will be able to add to this – he has far more “hands on” experience than I do.

Re: Fisher & Paykel gw708 motor problem ?

    Code 9 is Size setting
To set as Per Penguin post
Why did you change in first place?
    Is It a New controller?
    Is it right Part ?
When you changed controller did the washer have water in the bowl?
In some cases when changing motor controller & there was water in bowl
you may have to blow through pressure tube to clear.

    Hope this helps

Re: Fisher & Paykel gw708 motor problem ?

Thanks guys for all the help.

I have included the solution I got from the parts supplierWhich did the trick and thought you could pass it on to other users who have the same prob.

    THEY SAID…………….
“Check to see that the bowl is not stuck on the shaft.
If it is not free to lift up and down and turn freely on the shaft when it is lifted up, then you will have an agitation problem.

The error 9 is a size error.
While it is usually due to the size not being programmed correctly, it can also be due to a fault in the display module size switches.

The following is an extract from the manual.

    (00001001) Phase 1 to 5 – Size Error

    Phase 1 to 3

    Primary Source – Display Module

Action – The Display Module has not been correctly located in the console. This will not activate the size switches. Or the size switch may have been affected by condensation.

If the Display module has just been inserted into a console housing check that the two size switch plungers accurately locate onto the console housing. If this fault has appeared during normal operation of Smartdrive check the size switch or replace the Display module.

If the Motor Controller has been changed from one size machine, to another then the size switch settings in the memory will have to be reset. Entering and exiting the Option Adjustment mode can do this. Push and hold START/PAUSE then push POWER button to enter Option Adjustment Mode. This sets the size into EEPROM.

Re: Fisher & Paykel gw708 motor problem ?

Yep thats right for phase 1-3
    GW708 is A Phase 4 Washer

Motor controller is yellow in color? Phase 4 Size Setting

Or if Green in color is Phase 3 Phase 1-3 Size setting

    Hence maybe the confusion
