FISHER & PAYKEL GW711 – TEMPERAMENTAL

Daughter reports that machine now operates spasmodically.

Initial symptoms: – Fills on both hot and cold, washes then fails to spin. If advanced will often complete cycle. Occasionally does not.

Alternatatively, fills buts fails to agitate.

Daughter had a local service person attend – he thought it could have been the controller but reluctant to replace it as he was not confident it was the problem (no charge but no fix).

Initial error code was 00111000 (code 56)

Read the posts on this site and inspected machine – but found no signs of corrosion, water damage or wiring issues. Motor controller visually appeared ok.

Rotor Position Sensor was dry and wiring appeared ok but I assume to properly inspect would you have to remove the ferrite rotor assembly?

Inner drum is free to rise and fall. Removed the inner bowl – no obstructions found; pressure tube is not blocked or kinked.

On replacing inner bowl and top deck etc, error code had changed to
10001000 (code 136) but the machine was still able to successfully complete two complete cycles.

Next day – stopped before completing spin cycle. Beeping and error code 56 showing. Turned off and on – advanced to next cycle which completed.

Should I inspect the rotor position sensor more carefully by removing ferrite rotor? – or take a punt on a new controller board?

56 and 136 taken together would point to a rotor position sensor problem.

🙁 Although there were no signs of damage or corrosion I still replaced the rotor sensor – but to no avail.
No signs of water leaking or corrosion in any parts of machine.
Error message 56 still showng.
Machine fills but will not agitate – by advancing to next function, drains but will not spin.
When pressing start and power buttons they emit a loud “click” which I have not noticed on my own machine.
Further suggestions would be appreciated.
