I have a F&P MW059AU that won’t spin. it will wash & drain OK, opening the lid switch stops machine actions like filling & draining when it should…

The problem is at spin time. it runs the pump & jolts the agitator & inner tub backwards & forwards thru 20 or so degrees each way, until it gives up & starts beeping.

Placing the unit in diag mode shows no fault code initially.

Both fill solenoids work with the water temp buttons & pump can be turned on & off with the ‘regular wash’ button. as far as I recall from new flow rates appear normal both on fill & drain.

moving to diag level 4 (I think – spin speed lights 0100 & lid closed) lights are 00000100.

    I can toggle 2nd light with lid open/close & 4th light with OOB switch by rocking tub (lights = 0L0B0010, L=lid, B=OOB)

Placing it into the ‘flashing green’ test mode & running a wash cycle, the error reported at fail to spin is 40 or ‘00101000’.

thanks in advance for any help.

Code 40 can be caused by a number of problems.

    1) Suds in drum. Despite the water being pumped out, the pressure switch is still detecting water in the drum because of the presence of suds. Reduce soap and increase rinse water depth.

    2) Clothing or other objects gone over the side of the drum and tangles around the shaft/clutch.

    3) Problem withe the water level control itself. Check pressure switch tube for kinks/trapping/water/holes and attatchment.

    4) Pressure switch itself may be faulty – replace motor control board.

    5) Motor control board itself may be faulty, again replace.
