I’ve fitted a double oven to a standard B&Q tall lader unit. I’ve placed the shelf about a third of the way up from the bottom of the unit (fixed in place by the dowel/cam arrangement) and slid the oven in on this shelf.

    I have two questions.

1, is this shelf likely to be strong enough to support a double oven?

2, should there be a ventilation gap between the bottom of the oven and the shelf and there be an alternative method of support such as angle-iron brackets?

    Many thanks.
    Keith.

    Hi,
On the assumtion that you have built the oven housing unit using an “appliance tower shelf pack” which contains 2 metal stiffeners which are the width of the carcase as opposed to a “larder tower shelf pack” which does not then you will find 2 bearers approx 18″” long & 1.5″” wide with 3 holes in each. these are fitted below the shelf the oven is sitting on to act as additional support.
If you fit a ventilation grill to the plinth that will address any ventilation issue, as the airflow will then go behind the false back of the cupboards, passed the oven and out of the top of the tower.

    Hi

Most of the oven housings I am aware of have shelves about 2cm thick with the usual metal dowell and cam. These are perfectly adequate for a double oven. Making sure the cabinet is screwed to the wall of course.

In the installation instructions there is a drawing giving sizes and airflow movement requirements.

    :boops:
Oh dear. The housing was previously being used as a lader cupboard. I’ll look into getting the pack you’ve mentioned, many thanks for the info 🙂
