KeymasterShort story belt broke, ordered new belt, Bag belt is in lists my machine as using the said belt. Checked length, grooves etc against new belt, all is good.
But….. 😥
Took the top of machine, dropped belt down over pully wheel at back of drum, to find that the belt is about 1 inch (2.5cm) away from the drive of the motor. No amount of pulling etc will allow me to get that belt over the motor.
Thought I would undo the bolts holding the motor in place and maybe that would give me enough purchase to get the belt on? Nope still cant even get the belt to touch the drive spindle.
At this point I figured that there must be a well known ‘trick’ to getting these belts on. So tried the old bike chain method of putting the bet around the motor drive and feeding it onto drum and rotating drum to hopefully pull the belt on, but alas all it did was slip and wouldnt go on.
Desperately seeking help here!!

Thread the belt around the motor pulley and lash the other end to the main drum pulley using a plastic bag tie to hold it in place and to prevent it slipping off as you turn the drum by hand.
Once the belt rotates over the main pulley, simply cut the bag tie off and away you go 😀
Hotpoint engineers use a special tool (large tubular bar) that stretches the belt over the motor pulley. 😉

Yes, Hotpoint have gradually gone from having the easiest belt fitting access/design on the 95 series made in the ’80s to one of the most difficult, on the WMA machines.

Takes all of two minutes with the plastic bag tie technique. 🙂
