    Many thanks.

Yes the drum is stiffer to turn than I would expect. When the belt came off I thought I would be able to tell as the drum would be very easy to turn, but it wasn’t.

I will take it apart as you suggest. After the back is taken off (looks like I need to disconnect the connector from the mains which is on the panel) , is it simply a matter of lifting the drum out ?

I took the back off to put the replacement belt in so hopefully this isn’t too difficult a task.

    Thanks

Just apply that same procedure to remove the drum complete once the whole back panel is swung out of the way 😉

Just to give you an update. I followed your advice and cleaned out the fluff from the front drum “bearing” and this has made all the difference. I also greased (very lightly) the rear bearing shaft. The drum turned much easier and so far the belt has stayed on.

Many thanks again for your excellent help.

I used the instructions and I can’t say how grateful I am. Working out the routing of the belt wasn’t intuitive but once I carefully read the instructions it made sense.

Thanks for your help. My wife is amazed for once a job that went smoothly! 😯 😀

Re: Fitting belt on Zanussi Dryer

I found this thread very useful as I had the same problem i.e. I decided to replace the belt myself on my Zanussi TC470 Condenser tumble dryer and found the tension on the belt was wrong. The routing description for the belt was great and I followed the advice and now it is correct.
I was so pleased that I decided to follow the advice about cleaning the “bearings”. Wow you could stuff a small cushion with the fluff I took out of the front. I thought this would take away the slight screech that it makes on the reverse tumble part of the cycle. Sadly it didn’t. Could anyone explain why it makes this noise and should I be worrying about it?

The screech may be coming from the fan belt at the back. Early versions had the belt fitted in a figure of 8 with a little felt pad to stop the belt touching in the middle, then they changed it to a standard fitting which can also squeal on reverse, try a new belt – if not there is an electric motor kit available for these models but it aint cheap and is a little ott for a noisy belt!

Re: Fitting belt on Zanussi Dryer

Thanks farmboy. I do have the old belt in a figure of 8. It does rub itself as the little felt pad that is supposed to prevent this has a deep groove worn in it over time. Can one get replacements of even just stick something on top to push the belt out? I guess this might prevent wear on the little green belt.

However, I turned the dryer round (backwards) with the little green belt off and it still makes the noise so guess, although you have correctly identified a problem on my dryer (thanks again), it is not the cause of my little squeak. Any other ideas gratefully accepted? My own feeling is that it is something to do with the front part of the drum rubbing as there was a bit of rubbery stuff about 7 inches long with a cross section of about 2mm x 1mm in with the fluff I took out of the front. It didn’t seem to obviously come from anywhere accessible. Maybe it did something useful…. LOL.. perhaps I should have mentioned it earlier?

Re: Fitting belt on Zanussi Dryer

Not sure what you pulled out unless it was part of the front felt but if it still squeaks then it could be a number of things like front or rear felt worn, rear bearing or the little black pulley on the motor. Sometimes when the rear felt wears it can go smooth & shiny which can generate a squeak.

Obviously make sure you pull the plug if you’re going to investigate any further, alternatively have a look at the Repairs@ section for an engineer.

    hi,

I googled this particular thread as I had a similar problem. The thing is I was wondering what on earth I have to remove to get at the belt?

    model TC481W

would appreciate a link or any basic advice to get started. Would rather avoid paying another 200 quid for a dryer.

Just looked at the back of it and want to make sure I don’t pull off the wrong thing.

Also is it perfectly safe when unplugged?

    many thanks.

You have to remove the entire rear panel of the machine, and various ancilliaries. Patience is the key. Power off, of course.

If you’re not sure, click the link below.

    thanks for the response.

I’ve tried looking for engineers, but with most of them costing 50+ just for a call-out fee (+vat) and not including the part, I’m looking at 80-100 quid. If it cost 40 quid then maybe it’s worth it, but otherwise it is economically better to simply invest that towards a new dryer.

I’d rather buy a new dryer, or simply have a go at this one (nothing to lose scenario).

I would really appreciate if anyone has had experience with this dryer before just to explain what to take apart. I have taken photos of the back if anyone is kind enough.

By your advice it seems that I literally have to unscrew everything on the back. There seems to be 3 things that seem to be removable. The entire back, the section in the centre and also a plastic part at the bottom.

I guess I’ll start with the outer screws and see what happens. If anyone has any further info would appreciate it.

    or email dynamo123@hotmail.com

    cheers.

Don`t know what part of the country your in as labour rates do vary but that belt should cost you about £10-£15 and a reputable engineer will charge you an hours labour which should be between £35 and £55.

Try the link in Penguin45`s signature and get the job done professionally with no hassle 😀 .

lol, central london mate. Nothing cheap here.

cheapest using the link and also checking local was around 50 quid +VAT

add the 10-20 for the belt and it’s a bit pointless.

If I cannot take it apart, then will have to buy a new one with warranty etc.

sorry to be a pain, but does anyone have any specific info on this particular dryer on how to remove the back??

once that is done i’m pretty confident.

    thanks
