Participantthanks for the comment dave. I have read it and it seems fine, I just needed more detail on the actual removal of the back, like the easiest way to do it without removing something that shouldn’t be removed as it didn’t seem very obvious.
going to probably buy a new one soon (when I get round to it) but will definately give this a go and see if it falls into place. (it’s just the initial part which i’m a little unsure about).
thanks

What? 😕
If you can’t figure it out yourself, it really is time for professional help!
This forum is for guidance and fault finding, not step-by-step “how do I take this next bolt out” instructions 🙁

I have a similar problem with a TC470. The belt will not stay on. I bought a new one and followed the very useful advice on cleaning out the fluff and found Martin’s description of the belt route particularly useful.
“From memory as you look from the back the belt comes from the L/H/side of the drum, down and around the motor pulley, up over the tensioner pulley( clockwise) and away to the drum again on the other side…..??”
However, when I switch on the belt comes off immediately.
I believe that the tensioner pulley is not aligned with the drum and the grooves on the motor shaft. It rotates freely but does not slide on it’s shaft. I believe it should be positioned further back (closer to the motor).Am I right? Any suggestion about what I can do about it?

Have you made sure the belt is aligned all the way round the drum before switching on as it will just throw itelf off if not ?
With the power off, fit the belt then rotate the drum slowly by hand and watch carefully that it runs true 🙂

The belt usually leaves a track around the drum to line up to…..
Tension pulley isn’t wobbly is it?

Thank you both for your replies.
Yes the drum does have a track where the belt was and should be. This track also lines up with the grooves on the motor shaft. However, the tension pulley is so misaligned that it throws the belt off even when turning the drum by hand. However, it is not wobbly.
The old belt has only 4 grooves (1975 H 125828800) and a frayed edge. I suspect the tension pulley has frayed away 2 grooves. The belt I am trying to use has 6 grooves (1975H 125828810). Is this belt correct? The different part number worried me.
The pulley may be a problem to remove. The spring clip that is holding it on is about 2mm inside the pulley. It looks like I will have to smash or cut it away in order to replace it. Is there another option?March 27, 2006 at 1:48 pm #128490Martin

You will need a new Jockey Pulley (part no: 1250125109 available via emailing spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk ) but likely as not will be able to retrieve the spring clip and use on the new one. The larger belt will probably be fine. 2 extra grooves will give greater strength and less wear after all and it should fit fine. 😉

Took 20 minutes have now cleaned out all fluff and worked out everything using broken belt. If anyone gets this far go back to page 1and read again and hopefully you will understand. Will definitly use this site again .I was sent here by google on my 3rd attempt for help. 😀 .now just waiting delivery of belt would probably have bought new machine as labour rates very high in jersey and we are not all millionaires THANKS

Hi. Two days ago I tried to fit a new belt on our Zanussi TD501TC. Your comments were very helpful, but I missed a few things.
It’s enough to take off the screws at the outside of the rear panel. Do not forget the two for the top-cover. Slide the cover backwards and off. Then pull the whole rear a few inches out and put the new belt in place from the front of the drum. Replace the rear (plus screws) except the plastic part down at the right. Let someone help you by keeping the belt in position at the top of the drum. Force the tension pulley as far clockwise as possible (twelve o’clock) and place the belt left/below the pulley on the motor shaft. You need some force for this too. Once you succeeded you can turn the drum by hand to see if the belt stays in its place. Power on, trial run, replace other parts and take a beer! 😀 -
