Hi, Can anyone inform me how to fit a new belt to a hotpoint VTD00 tumble dryer. I have purchased a replacement belt, part number 1703666, but it is wider than the original belt and only just fits around the drum. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

It is an elastic stretch belt…….. We have a tool to help, which is basically a tube which fits over the motor pulley. Hook the belt over it and work it down to the motor shaft, then withdraw the tube.

If you can’t improvise something, brute force may work.

Many thanks for the information. Can you let me know the method for fitting the new belt as I am having trouble reaching the pulley. AH

Penguin will put you right………..We in the trade use a special tool (a long bar in effect) that stretches the belt down, round and onto the pulley. Without that tool it’s a sausage of a job. Penguin will pop by later tonight I expect 😉

ive struggled before with all the stretch belts in t/ds. in desperation i ised a length of copper tube about 3 feet long over the motor shaft , put the belt over the tube then fitted the beld around the tub then rotated the tub and worked the belt down to the right position. a slow and tedious way but it works. better than loosening the motor screws, replacing them with longer self tappers, fitting the belt with less tension then screwing the longer screws tight and replacing them with original screws….if you can be bothered…
