    Hi there

After a bit of detective work it looks like it’s the thermostat that’s gone in my fridge.

Now’s the tricky bit – can anyone tell me if it’s within the capability of myself to install? I haven’t had a close enough look to even know where it goes yet!

    Thanks!

OK without any instructions or guidance whatsoever I tried to do this myself.

First, I turned off the fridge. I had no idea where the thermostat went, so after a little hunting down I popped the top off and found out it was (of course) connected to the thermostat controller (the temp dial thing) on the outside of the fridge.

The top was easy enough to get off and after a bit of umming and ahhing I got the thermostat out and unplugged. All that was needed was a phillips head screwdriver and some pliers to undo the nut that secures the thermostat dial.

Only thing is the thermostat that was already fitted had a sensor (long wire) that led off and disappeared into a hole into the depths of the fridge. So I yanked it but only managed to get it out about 4cm. It was stuck. It obviously wasn’t going anywhere so I thought as it’s just a sensor maybe I can get away with cutting it off and just twisting it up with the the other sensor. So that’s what I did.

I turned it on and wa-hey! The fridge made all the right noises. So I packed it all back and just before putting the top back on I tested it one more time. Again, the fridge kicked in. Brilliant.

So I put it all back together, plugged it in and…nothing.

Somehow, inbetween me testing it and putting the lid back on the top, it broke. Again.

    Bugger.

the piece you cut is a cappilary tube with gas in it thats why its probably not working mate
the other end is usualy conected to the plate inside the fridge you will need to loosen that end b4 you can release it
let me know how u get on

That explains a lot. Any idea where the end of this mystery bit of wire might be located in the fridge? Down the back near the compressor??

Plate? You mean the on with all the serial number on it and stuff? Or near the light? Sorry for being a muppet – if it was a car or pc I’d know with my eyes closed but fridges are a mystery to me.

The other end of that “wire” sits in a small tube in the pastic air duct housing at the back of the fridge, you will have to remove the housing to do it.
