I have a Norfrost Ice Chef C105 chest freezer on which I need to replace the thermostat. As a pretty seasoned DIYer, I decided to tackle this myself.

I have searched around here for any info relating to Norfrost freezers and thermostats but the only reference was (ironically) someone asking if fitting a replacement thermostat was easy – unfortunately, no one replied to that!

Having checked through the good offices of this site (thanks, Dave) I found a suitable replacement and have ordered it.

I watched the YouTube video by ‘icetechfreezers’ on how to fit the part

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-poyyFnXPE

which makes it look so easy – and in most cases it probably is – so I set about taking the old one out. The guy in the ‘icetech’ video mentioned what sounded like “an 8 degree turn” in the fixed metal sleeve through which the capillary passes; mine seems more like 108 degrees as it just won’t budge. It actually broke as I tried to pull it out (had to resort to pliers) so I had to remove a small square of the insulation from the bottom of the freezer in order to use a pipe cutter to take away a small section of the metal sleeve to expose another inch or so of the capillary. I have tried to pull it out with pliers but it’s just not having it, which would seem to suggest that someone has tied a knot in it at the other end! – though my freezer is virtually identical to the one in the ‘icetech’ video. So, do you guys have any suggestions?

All I can think of is having to be drastic and do what has to be done to expose the other end, I can always replace the insulation by using a spray can of foam.

Would be very grateful for any comments and help.

    Thank you. David.
