ParticipantI’ve notice the last few days that food is taking longer to cook so this time i used the cooker i waited a while after lighting to see whats going on, when i set the gas the flame wont go any higher than when it was fire lit regardless of how high i set the gas. If anyone knows what wrong your help would be much appropriate as everyone in the house is still using the cooker to cook without even known whats wrong with it.

most gas ovens have a flame failure device. what happens when you light it is a small amount of gas comes through and ignites. After it has been lit for about 30 secs or so the flame failure device detects it is burning and increases the gas flow. if the flame gets blown out the same device will lower the gas flow to try and stop explosions
if this has failed the amount of gas would be that low I cant see how anybody could use it

Thanks for your reply dave do you have any idea how much it would cost on average to fix? And is it still safe to use it like that or should i tell everyone to stop using it.

This could well be a ffd if it’s a rangemaster and this is something that has to be repaired by a gas safe engineer

If its of any help the make and model is hotpoint GW74P. The cooker can also run on LPG so i dont know if this will make it harder to find the correct part.

It should be this one:

The gas supply does need to be broken so it is highly recommended that you have that done by a Gas Safe registered repairer.
