ParticipantI have a Hotpoint Aquarius WDL520, which is around 2 years old. It washes fine, but when it gets to the drying cycle, or is put on a standalone drying cycle, within a minute or two the drum stops rotating and all the lights on the panel flash for a few minutes. The on/off switch won’t work at this point, and I just have to wait for it to reset itself.
We’ve tried switching it off and on again at the plug, which is all the manual suggests. I’ve been to the Hotpoint website and see I can call someone out for £80 who will fix it. I don’t want to pay that to find out it’s beyond repair, or to find that it’s something I could have done myself for a fiver.
Advice (preferably with idiot-proof instructions and diagrams!) much appreciated. At this time of year I really need the drying function up and running!
😀

Are you sure that ALL of the lights are flashing.
The error codes are given by flashing a combination of the right hand vertical lights, only the bottom five lights are used for error codes.
PS. Is the full model number WDL520G/PUK or is it a WDL520G/PUK.C or WDL520G/PUK.K ?
You can ignore the G/P they stand for Graphite or Polar White. 😉

I’ve just been to check. Where would I find the full number?
I put it on to dry to watch exactly what happened. It ran for 5 minutes, then all the lights next to the buttons flashed. The lights which say which part of the cycle it’s on/door lock etc don’t flash.

Inside the door there is a sticker which says “WDL520P” but I can’t find anything else on the machine.
The clothes are not warm.

just ignore the option lights that flash, look at the vertical progress indicators, thats the ones with the door lock at the bottom, when the fault appeares just mark down on a piece of paper which light is lit and which are not start from the bottom, then just post back the results.

that fault is an F13 fault code, if you use your dryer a lot its possible the flushing filter or condenser are blocked, not realy a diy job but if you do have a go please pull the mains plug out first.

Thank you very much 🙂 I probably do use the dryer quite a lot. I put washing on the line when the weather’s good, but small things like underwear and baby clothes often get dried in machine.

If you can give us all of the numbers on the label, serial number etc we can identify which type of machine you have. Or can you tell us if there is a pump filter behind the ‘prise off’ kick strip at the bottom, right hand side of the machine?
The condensor set up is totally different on the later machines.

The other numbers on a sticker say 56871 and 810160101.
Behind the kick strip is a red plastic circle with a hand crossed out on it and a date stamp 14/10/2008.

That means that yours is a WDL520PUK.K so it has the earlier Hotpoint drum as opposed to the awful Indesit type, sealed drum.
The filter and dryer assembly are not that bad to access and a decent local independent engineer would be able to sort that for much less than the figure quoted by Hotpoint if you don’t fancy tackling it yourself.

Thank you very much 🙂
I’ve just updated my partner. Despite knowing NOTHING about appliances he wants to have a look at it over the weekend (rolling my eyes here) and he’s concerned that if we get someone other than Hotpoint, then any parts might be expensive.
