Flooding Miele Mystery

We were called to a Miele W460S Washer that had suddenly started spewing water out of the soap drawer, but only during the final rinses.

A blockage in the soap-drawer-to-tub hose (which has a U-bend) I thought. So we took it out, cleaned it very thoroughly, checked the soap drawer and housing carefully for any blockages, checked that horrible electrically controlled coldfill-redirector thingy for correct operation, and put it all back together. No difference.

There is no problem with the main wash or prewash filling into compartment 1 or 2 of the soap drawer. But as soon as it gets to a rinse, which dumps the water almost straight into the soap-drawer-to-tub hose, it slowly backs up, refuses to flow cleanly into the tub, chuffs and gurgles (like an airlock) and finally floods out of the drawer compartment and over the floor.

We reduced the water pressure, tried all setting of the tap from full to off, and it makes not a blind bit of difference. After 2.5 hours last night I threw in the towel (literally!) and went home.

Never come across this before. It defies logic. Can anyone help out there – have you experienced the same prioblem??

I will buy a pint for anyone who can help me solve this!!!

    Cheers

I’m not sure if this is the same fault as I had,but it sounds similar on the left hand side just below the soap drawer is a y piece,I found it easier to remove left hand side panel to get at it although my mate removed soap drawer to do his ,I cleaned the 3 pipes that go into this and the ‘y’ piece and it never flooded again hope this helps also have a look at the clear chamber at the rear left i’ve had these block 😕

    Re: Flooding Miele Mystery

I know this was posted ages ago but this may be of help for someone searching through for this problem.
I had a similar leaking Miele machine today & the breather hose from soap drawer to top of tub was blocked.

These new type machines with balls in sump hose seal the tub at base & when water enters through drawer to tub the air displaced from tub has to go somewhere hence the breather tube.

If the breather tube is blocked air is coming up the same hose as the water going from soap drawer to tub causing spurts & gurgles & will cause leakage at front of drawer.

Yes you are absolutely right, and I meant to post up the “final” solution but
    forgot. Thanks for the post.

As you say, the drum is airtight with only that small pipe on the top to release air as the water comes in. If it is blocked, water splutters all out the soap drawer and over the floor.
