What do you put on your feet and are you happy with them??
for a few years now iv’e been wearing scruffs saftey trainers but to me they don’t seem to last too long,trouble is it’s all the bending of the sole when your inspecting machines.
I used to wear DM’s but since they moved production to china they have not been the same since.Dave

True, DM’s not been the same for years. Tried Monkey boots once and they left black skid marks all over peoples Lino.
Try Skateboard trainers such as DC as the soles are really flexible and dont crack. Not so good when wading through water flooding out of the washing machine door you just opened not realising its full due to a duff valve.
Also bear in mind the customers that request us to remove them before entering house (and then put them back on at the place you are working, needless to say) and you dont want to flaff around with loads of laces and eyes.
Guess Health and Safety may dictate some god awful steel towcapped work boot but, in my case, no thanks.Re: footwear
I wouldn’t enter a customers premises without my safety boots on . If the customer asks me to remove them , i refuse but do offer to put on some overshoes ( glorified plastic bags ) . Because of my diabetes , i have to be very careful with my tootsies and thats why the wearing of safety boots is so important to me.
The boots supplied to us are called ‘Weltuff’ and the ones i have look like a walking boot . They’re actually very comfortable which is surprising as most of the safety footwear i’ve had previously were a pain to wear all day.

I used to wear DM’s but since they moved production to china they have not been the same since.Dave I used to waste money buying trainers or leather boots every 6 months, but as you say , all the bending wrecks them.. The answer..?? HIKING BOOTS!! Seriously, go for a quality boot with Gore-Tex in the areas which flex the most and you cant go wrong. I bought a pair of Brashers 2 years ago £60 in jan sales, worn to work 5/6 days a week , still in superb condition! 😯

I get mine from ARCO they do a good quality brogue safety shoe which in my experience wears well without splitting the sole,plus they polish up like new.
BTW I don’t take shoes off when working either.
I’m not dirtying my socks on somebodys dirty floor no matter how long their beard is 😉Steve

coming from Northamptonshire and growing up in a street with three shoe factories in it it has been sad to see loss of a traditional industry. once again its all to do with price. one of my customers a former shoe factory owner was telling me how the final nail in his business came when the wholesale cost of imports was less than the boxes he packed his shoes in.

I used to buy my safety shoes direct from the factory shop (toetectors rejects) usually lasted me about a year cost £12 now I buy imports from the ordinary shop at £15 and they last about 3 months!
as for griggs (dm)I always found them uncomfortable.wilf

I’ve anyways worn an old pair of trainers, but they do just fall to piece after 6 months 🙁
I’ve had some Dickies work-boots for the last 2 months, £25, comfy, safe, and Dickies are cool 8)
They’re pretty quick to get on and off too 🙂
I wear dewalt safety boots I got from Makro, had them about a year now they are super comfy, non marking boots, have worn them daily but theres hardly any sign of wear on them.

Usually the sort of folk who wear trainers are the same as those who wear denim jeans. Both are bad for image. I always wear clean shoes and smart working trousers, to enhance a professional appearence.

I wear a shirt with my company logo and my name on it ,I also wear smart jeans ,with boots .
I find working trousers dont last on the knees and jeans feel more comfortable.
