Forum Downtime

Evening guys.

Either this evening or tomorrow evening (through the night) there will be about an hour’s worth of downtime as we upgrade the forums to a new version to resolve a few odds and sods. No particular additional features will be added with the core upgrade.

We will be doing a couple of other things while that happens, taking advantage of the downtime essentially to add a few bits.

The one you’ll see is related topics appearing at the bottom of the forum posts.

It’s not a magic bullet thing but I’m hoping it helps find similar subjects that you can use when looking for information. The hope is and, from what we’ve seen on the test server, that it will relate model numbers so it should (I hope) point you to other threads related to the same model or issue. Like I say, it’s not foolproof but I hope it proves useful.

For the public forums I’m hoping it stops people asking the same things over and over.

We’ll see. But it’s worth a punt.

Sorry about that, a little bit last night to get the forum software up to date and, tonight it looks like Sudeep has successfully installed the “related topics” module.

You can now see related topics at the bottom of a thread without searching. It’s not foolproof as I said but it should help a bit.

There may be a short downtime tomorrow as we do some decorating. 😉

Expected AM but we’re going to try to avoid any outage if it’s at all possible.

Enhancements to the search, related topics and general other spiffy stuff behind the scenes that will make general improvements on things.

Also on the cards in the next couple of weeks is a possible outage due to server relocation and replacement. Unavoidable when it happens I’m afraid but it should speed up the whole affair and allows us to do some more funky stuff.
