ParticipantCurrently renovating new premises for ourselves, and I have my own ideas already, and a fair few years taking part in shop refurbs before being on here, so i know the basic rules and theories behind the “visual merchanidising university degree” layouts, but i also understand that precisely the reason why the majority of indie-shop customers visit independants is not only the advice and knowledge, its the warm, homely traditional shop, almost “alladin’s cave” feel too.
I get the feeling, rightly or wrongly, that in the current climate our customers wising up and are shying away from the well preened open-plan showroom style stores, except to windowshop at them because after certain comments i note the less is more approach is implying to them that the appliances have a huge markup inorder to pay for the space that can be afforded to each appliance.
Our main competition in our locality are the big boys, and a couple of euronics centres, so its hard without going on a huge mileage round trip to findout how other independents are structuring their shops.
So really just wondered if anyone was so proud of their shop that they wanted to show it off and be happy to post pics of it in case there are any novel ideas or display solutions that would benefit the whole of us 😀

If you want to see what my shop looks like at the moment then throw a few machines in a pile with a drum of cable and a grenade and….VOILA!! 😆

Ditto Bazza, but imagine it in the front of a tiny terrace house in a delapidated northern town, and cover everything in dust!

don, envious of your sq. footage! its pretty much what we wanna achieve – i.e lots of stock per sq-m, but clearly laid out.
also interested that you are operating the staggered angle layout of washers, so they arent just in a flat line. was contemplating it but feared it would eat up too much space, but bouyed with confidence now i know others are!
Plus trading standards must (be the only ones who) love that you have those ugly energy stickers all over the sexy new machines…
in particular the black and s/s models :D:D:D:D
made a trip to gillmans the other day… business related of course, but yes, wow. talk about hooj…
