F&P ECS Gentle Annie GW52-U not pumping water out

Hi, I have the above model of washing machine. It fills and agitates ok, but does not pump out water prior to the spin cycle.

I tried running the diagnostic test on it, but it does not seem to work on this model of machine.

The outlet hose, where it is attached to the machine, is “collapsed” and does not hold its shape. It has functioned fine before just giving up now.

What is wrong with this machine, and what would it need to work again? Is it worthwhile trying?

The sticky at the top of the forum referes to diagnostics for the “SmartDrive” family of machines – yours pre-dates them. Bigsmokepiker should be able to help you out with some info on these ones.

In the meantime, does the drain pump actually run? Is the pump filter clear? Can you get water flowing if you manipulate the drain hose?

Hi Penguin45, thanks for your reply.

There is something definately running at the ‘drain water’ part of the cycle (which I assume is the drain pump), but no movement or drainage of water whatsoever. Manipulating the drain hose has no effect.

This may sound a silly question, but where is the pump filter located and where on the machine do you access it? I’m mechanically-challenged and have no idea of the typical components or internal anatomy of a washing machine apart from the controls and under the lid….

Pump will be on the floor of the machine – I’m sorry, but I’ve never seen one here in the UK. Bit of Googling found some pretty pictures – HERE – which will give you a general idea of the layout. Pump looks like it should have a filter trap in it; some sort of twist-off cap. Patience – BSP probably knows 😀 .

yes pump does have a housing cap which can be twisted off
If pump itself is shagged it is one of the few parts available for this old Machine
