I have a F&P GW509AU with an intermittent fault. It will usually run through a full cycle without a problem but occasionally it will get to the end of the rinse cycle and fail to pump out. When this happens the pump does not seem to be getting sufficient power to drain the machine. It starts slowly and runs for a second or so then stops and this cycle is repeated regularly approx 5 seconds later.

I ran the diagnostic test as suggested in other posts after this happened but there is no error code displayed at all. I was able to test the pump while in diagnostic mode and it runs OK and was able to empty out the machine.

I removed the pump to check for anything obstructing it but found nothing. Checked the outlet hose and it also seems to be clear.

    Any ideas?

    Hmmm.

First thought was something restricting the impellor, but you seem to have covered that.

When it fails, does the pump motor seem to be hot? There is a thermal cut-out in the pump winding, which will shut the pump down if it overheats. The pump should spin with a slight resistance if you spin it by the cooling fan. It should not be rusty or wet. It’s also worth checking the wiring at the terminals and the turn under the drum for chaffing, breakages, etc.

Do NOT touch the pump with the machine plugged in – the pump is permanently live.

If all the above checks out, I can only suggest some sort of logic error with the computer board.
