ParticipantMy neighbour’s Fisher&Paykel GW600 Smartdrive would not show any sign of life after he interrupted a spin cycle that had just started, by lifting the lid.
I had a look for him and found the 6A fuse was blown. I replaced this fuse and turned the power back on – the result was a loud bang and the replacement fuse was blown. I removed the control unit and pulled it apart.
Everything looks OK except for the large power block that has the heatsink.
I removed this unit from the board and found that the bakelite package had partially blown apart.
I have tried Googling the part number of this part (97-0204 IR 9205) but have found no meaningful information. It is pretty obvious that the part is made by International Rectifier, but I know very little else about it.
If I replace this part, is everything else likely to be OK? I think I can get a replacement entire control unit, but if I go this way I would like to be confident that there is no other fault.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this situation?
Regards

Hi Phil,
This is at least 13 years old, so probably about time something blew! You can chase round the rest of the machine with a test meter to check the other components, I would be worried about the condition of the control board itself. The actual blown component may have been superceded with the passage of time – I do know that phase 1 control boards are no longer available new.Check your email shortly – you in Oz or NZ?
