ParticipantI have a Fishe & paykel gw709au washing mashine which had a few different beep codes come up so i restarted it a few times then the main board made a very loud pop now there is no power, so i thought i would get the main board out of my other F&P GW708U washing mashine but totaly different.
The GW708U also has beep codes coming up so could some one please tell me how to interpret them and how to get into diagnostic mode. This machine makes a lot of noise when it is spinning so i belive the bearings and seal may need replacing. but i also want to make sure that this is correct by checking the codes. i thing it will be cheaper to replace the bearings in this one rather thane changing the mainboard in the other.June 21, 2006 at 8:05 pm #179629Penguin45

To enter diagnostics, hold down “Temp down”, then press “Power”. After 2 beeps, press “Spin” until “Hold” and “Slow Spin” lamps are lit. Any fault code is dispalyed on the wash progress board as a binary code from right to left – “spin” = 1, up to 128 at the other end.
As for the bearings, diagnostics won’t help – job for no1 ear to decide 😀 .
Anyway, report back your code and we’ll see what it means.

i just went and tried the washing mashine it came up all clear, so i will do a few loads of washing with it and see how it goes. On another note are the motors interchangeable between the 709 and 708 ? i will keep you posted on the results
thanks gekkoJune 23, 2006 at 8:04 pm #179631Penguin45

708 is a phase 4 machine, 709 is a phase 5. Rotor and stator part numbers are different for the two ranges.

ok i have now reassembled the washing mashine after replacing the bearings and seal but as stated by you in a previous post “F&P GW708U Noisy Bearing!” it is a difficult job easy to take apart but harder to reassemble.
anyway have put on my fitrst load of washing on but the mashine will not pump out and i get a beep code which is, counting from right to left the 1st, 3rd, 6th lights are on the rest are off, can you please assit with this code.thanks gekko

164 – Brake fault (!) – new one on me…. The motor will brake the drum at the end of any spin cycle, so most likely (as the motor has been off) there is a problem with the wiring to the motor or position sensor or even the pump……..
Do the basics – 26-33 ohms through the pump is the first thing; does the pump actually run? If not, you’ll need to check the wiring locations – I hope you made a diagram……?
