ParticipantHi,
A Fisher & Paykel GW709au washing machine is intermittently over filling. I recently replaced the cold water solenoid because it was not closing. The water levels were correct for about 10 wash cycles but it is now over filling. When a low water level is selected, the machine will fill up past the medium and almost up to the high level mark. A fault code of 39 is displayed in the diagnostic mode. Does anyone know what the 39 diagnostic code indicates? Does anyone know if it is normal for a little water to be retained in the bottom part of the water level tube after the bowl is drained?

That fault is change of water level not detected in time allowed. Standard fault is the tube being trapped, kinked or holed. It should not have any water in it at any time.
Other possibilities are the level sensor itself or the motor controller board, but these are unlikely in view of there being water in the tube.
Fully drain the machine, remove tube at top end and blow clear, refit and test.
Power off, of course……

Thanks for the reply to my overfilling problem. I thought my latest findings might be of interest to other readers on this forum that are experiencing similar problems. I found that the water level tube was ok but suspect that the problem was caused by fabric softener gumming-up the aperture for the water level tube. Although I have not taken the bowl out to verify it, I previously detached the tube from the pressure sensor and blew through the tube to clear it which fixed the problem for a while. I have also cleaned large quantities of fabric softener residue from under the agitator and from other areas that do not come in contact with the washed items. The mains water in Adelaide is fairly hard so it might be contributing to the problem. When the fabric softener goes gummy, it does not dissolve even if the bowl is filled with water and left to stand overnight. Soaking in dishwasher detergent does not remove it either.
If anyone knows of a simple way of dissolving residual fabric softener that has gone gummy, I would appreciate your input.

Ideally, you’re going to have to pull the chamber and clean it out properly – it’s the only way. Fabric conditioner is basically smelly grease – pre-diluting can help it to dissolve better, personally we don’t use it.
