ParticipantOur 051 a while ago developed a problem with the start button working only intermittently. After a couple of years of starting it by pressing the electronic switch directly on the blue display module, the switch fell apart.
So I brought a new display module yesterday (from a reputable parts and service place) – unfortunately the start button still doesn’t work. It lights up and makes all the right noises on power on, but when you press start the machine beeps and it does nothing.
I’ve had a look through this forum couldn’t find the same fault etc, and I’ve tried that diagnostic I’ve seen people here talk about, but it doesn’t appear to work – at least I can’t get it to beep in the right places (could be extreme incompetence on my part).
Does anyone have any thoughts? Is the new module display unit faulty?
Model No is MW051-K
Serial No is BLP576315Cheers,

The sympons are exactly the same as with the previous board, so I suspect that you have made a mis-diagnosis.
The common failure which can produce this is the lid switch, which can become corroded, sticky and have dicky wiring.
For phase 2 diagnostics, hold “Wash temp down”, then “Power”. Wait for two beeps, then press “Advance” once. Use the spin buttons until “Spin Hold” and “Slow Spin” lamps are lit. The wash progress board will illuminate various lamps to indicate the last fault. This is a binary code from right to left (1-2-4-8-16 etc). Add ’em up and post back – we should be able to work it out.

Thanks, there was no beep’s while holding down ‘wash temp down” and “power” but it seemed to do the rest… the code, as you look at the lights – (so right most 1 is the red spin light) was: 00001001.
I’m not sure if that is the right way round – sorry.

After having a look through the forums I found this, so I thought I would give it a go. http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … ic&t=14845
No real joy, except after some button pressing it started to fill with hot water. Interestingly enough while it was doing that and (the subsequent draining of water) I could lift the lid up without it stopping the hot water filling etc.
Does this lend more weight to the lid switch theory? Currently when you power on, and press start it beeps angrily and displays the red spin led only.

Ah – the size error. On this machine, size is set by plungers working switches. It usually means that the display board is not located properly in the panel. Additionally, you may need to reset the memory on the power board – hold down “Start”, then “Power” and it should do the trick.

Legend!! Thanks for that. The memory clear thing did the trick.
Mrs Dan is very happy to have it working again, and wonders whether she should send baking.
Thanks heaps for your help.

More… trouble!?
This time the hot water is very slow to fill, its not much more than a dribble. After awhile it starts beeping as it is trying to fill up – presumably to let you know that something is not right. I suspect it could be the hot valve or the electronics’ controlling it. The cold fill’s fine (as far as I can tell).
We have been using hot buckets of water to add water manually.
I tried the diagnostic thing again (being short of any other ideas) and it was the same as last time. 00001001. But other than the slow fill its working just right.
Any ideas again? Thanks for your help.
Cheers,

Hot water is always dirty water, so the inlet valve mesh may be clogged – remove fill hose and check. Failing that it more or less has to the hot valve itself. P/no 425324 is the replacement.
