*************Thanks Jo for the 8 pages. I have found some interesting information from those pages.
This includes:
1. The smartdrive 051 I have is a “F&P speak” phase 2 washing machine (Blue controller/Blue console), has 4 cycle buttons and the width is 560 mm so it is a MW051.
2. It has no diagnostic sheet under the console and doesn’t look like it ever did.
3. Entering diagnostic mode only gives 1 short beep despite what page 36 says. Since it is a Phase 2 washing machine I also pressed the advance button.
4. The spin buttons were pressed to illuminate only the hold and slow spin leds (diagnostic mode level 3). The resulting code (left most wash led + right most final rinse & spin leds) 128+2+1 indicate a last fault condition of 131.
5. The next page provided information on how to test the lid,OOB & size switches. The text again incorrectly suggests that 2 beeps will occur when entering diagnostic mode. Activating and deactivating the lid switch affected the 9 min led while the OOB switch affected the next right most led to activate in a delayed fashion both on and off.
6. The hot & cold valve solenoids appear to work.I still don’t know what the cause of this fault is despite having those pages and knowing that it isn’t a number components eliminated by the testing of their function.
Initially I thought that the solenoid(s) may be at fault but have been convinced otherwise.
Have you got anymore information such as section 11.0 or a fault code table?

131 is a continuous rotor position error – this a sensor on the side of the motor.

Have tried something already, but not sure what it means.
i) Pressed and held down the Lower Wash Temp button
ii) pressed Power button
iii) All console lights light up
iv) after 4 or 5 secs, lights go out and the Rinse and Low Water Level lights stay lit
v) pressing the Hot or cold buttons activates the respective hot and cold selenoidsJuly 18, 2005 at 8:17 am #139644Philius

Epilogue ->
Worked out that the drain pump seal had been slowly leaking some water onto the pump causing it to rust slightly. Pump would still run and operate correctly, but would overheat and stop. A self-reseting temperature fuse on the motor would stop the operation and then it would restart a few mins later.
Replaced the drain pump and the O51 works good again. 😉
