    Hi All,

Just discovered this site as I was getting ready to call in the techies, very informative.

I have a Fisher and Paykel SmartDrive 508 washing machine, I turn it on – all the lights appear as normal but it refuses to start filling with water.

I’ve tried the diagnostic tricks from previous posts and found I can fill the machine with water and empty it again fine.

My wife found that unbalancing the machine slightly sometimes solved the problem so I tried shorting out the OOB but still no luck.

Error Code for “Hold+Slow” lights is 0000 0000, next setting “Medium” is 0100 0001.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Cheers!

Hi Nick – regret that the codes you have given do not match up with any recognised lists.

To enter the diagnostic mode, hold “Wash Temp Down”, then “Power”. Use “Spin Speed” button to illuminate to “High Water” led, then read off wash progress lights from right to left. It’s a binary code – 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 etc.

    Hi Penguin,

    Thanks for the quick response.

Based on your message, I wrote my previous codes backwards (from left to right), also – my washing machine is a 708 not a 508, sorry about that!

Pressing the Spin Speed or even the Water level buttons doesn’t move the Water Level past Low/Medium.

    My Diagnostics are as follows:
    0000 0000 (Hold+Slow)
    1000 0010 (Medium)
    1000 0110 (Hold+Medium)
    1111 0000 (Slow+Medium)
    1111 1110 (Hold+Slow+Medium)
    1011 1000 (Fast)
    0101 0100 (Hold+Fast)

Re: F&P Smartdrive – Does’t Fill on Startup

Nope – none of these correlate either – so………

    No fill is caused by:
Valve failure – if it fills in test mode this is not the case.
Pump failure – try running a drain sequence only.
Rotor position sensor failure – it should agitate during fill.
Lid switch failure – shouldn’t do anything at all.

Kiwi and F+P check these forums regularly and have a lot more experience than I, so if none of the above helps, don’t panic yet!

    Regards,
    Penguin45.

Your lights are back to front
    Look at the medium lights
    01000 001
the second light on shows a faulty lid switch the last light 7kg size seting

Hold and slow are the fault code no fault showen as it thinks the lid is open

Re: F&P Smartdrive – Does’t Fill on Startup

We are upside down here Chris water goes down the plug the other way as well

Show the display lights as 0 0ff and 1 on
Display lights as seen from Left to Right starting with long wash finishing with spin standing in front of the machine
In diaagnostic mode we only need the slow and hold lights on for the fault code and the Med light on for switch diagnostics 08 09 and 011 models other lights just confuse us
Perhaps we need a sticky on this one

Re: F&P Smartdrive – Does’t Fill on Startup

    Hi F&P,

You were right on the money, I removed the Lid Reed Switch and closed the circuit. The washing machine now works fine and the diagnostic light is off.

I’ve also ordered a new Lid Reed Switch/OOB Harness.

For the record reading from left to right, my Error Codes were:

0000 0000 (slow and hold lights)
    0100 0001 (medium light only)

Thanks heaps for your help guys, keep up the good work!
