ParticipantHi,
I have a Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive GW603 washing machine, when the machine goes to fill the machine with water it is extremely slow, cold water seems to be slower than hot. I took the water hoses off and the hoses aren’t blocked and the filters look clean.
Any suggestions?
Could the problem be related to the water inlet valves? and how can I test to see if they are the problem and are they expensive or difficult to change?
Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

Hi Rot0r,
There are two types of water valve on your appliance. The hot water valve is a non-proportional type, ie when energised it is fully open and allows water into the machine based on the household pressure. The cold water valve is a proportional type, ie it can adjust the flow of water into the machine. During fill for wash, if the hot flow is slow it is likely that the cold flow will be slow as the machine is trying to achieve the correct wash temperature by mixing the fill. The valves do go faulty – 425320 is the proportional cold valve, 425324 is the hot one. I regret I cannot advise you with prices – I am half a world away.

Thanks for the information Penguin45, do you know if there is anyway of testing the valves? As the water flow seems faster when the temperature setting is hot but gets slower when the temperature setting is lowered. This doesn’t seem right if the hot water valve is a non-proportional type, could anything else cause the slow water flow?
Thanks again.

If the hoses havent been swapped, then the cold valve is faulty. This usually has a hissing/whooshing noise when filling. Easy to replace, just remember to take the seal off the old valve and fit it to the new one before refit it into the mixing chamber.
Happy fixin’ 😉 -
