KeymasterHello all,
problem: fridge part of fridge/freezer not cooling properly
model: frigidaire FR34 (class N)
Age: ? at least 4 years.
the compressor hardly ever switches off – if at all.
the compressor sounds ok to me.
freezer has no fan – i assume this means its not a frost free type
freezer is working fine, but seems to frost up quickly.
door seals seem mostly ok, i cannot feel any cool air escaping.
the fridge bulb has not come on (i’m not bothered by this)
the defrost drain in the fridge is clear
the fridge defrost drain “overflow tank” (dont know the name of this but it sits on top of the compressor) has some holes in it- i’m assuming it has been melted by the temperature of the compressor
there are some cracks/damage to the inner wall in both the fridge and freezer.
any ideas?
i have an electrical background. so can test things with a multimeter etc
thanks for your help

hello greg, if i remember correctly, these fridges had a valve supplying refrigerant to one of the cabinets, possibly the fridge.
one thing to remember at this time of year though, the compressor will seem to be running a lot longer than normal, coping with the high ambient temperatures.
problems here could be the valve, gas or even compressor.
none of these problems are user serviceable, try the repairs@ feature on site.cheers.

Keymasterthanks for your reply alf,
this problem has been occuring for months now- even in cold weather the compressor stays on.
one thing i didnt say – this seemed to start after i completely defrosted the thing, and i probably damaged the inner walls at this time (!) , i wondered could this be a possible cause?Greg

hi greg, of course if the liner is away from the evaporator beneath it, then this could be a cause. unfortunately it also means the appliance is irreparable.
cheers.
