Slightly different trade but has anyone heard of this plumber /heating engineer in Burnley who does free repairs to pensioners.
What a guy, he’s 8K in debt but wants to make the world a better place!.

Any of you guys thinking of doing free white goods repairs?

    (I’m not by the way)

well there are pensioners and pensioners

some pensioners earn more then I do on a pension so if I can see they are hard up and struggling will normally go easy on charges but can never do it free

if you start doing things for free someone will take the P

I have now retired but I did a repair a few years ago free of charge with a shocking result a few hours later.

The repair I was called to was for an old Lady with an old under work top fridge near where I live.

The call only took me less than 10 minutes as the fridge was in a poor condition due to its age ( approximately 20 years old )
the compressor was also seized so I advised it was beyond economical repair.

The living conditions of the Old Lady was poor and it looked like she was struggling to make ends meet.

She asked me how much she owed as I said it was a £70 Call out when she had phoned and I had told her the call out covered all the Labour but parts additional.

I said as I had to pass her house and had only had to diagnose the fault and it was not worth repairing the call was free of charge.

A couple of hours later I had a call from the lady’s daughter and she was very angry saying I had upset her Mother.

I asked how I had upset her and she said she was a proud woman and was upset I would not except payment and she was sending me a cheque for £70 in the post, and she would not be recommending me to anyone as I had upset her elderly Mother.

I advised her as I was passing, and the fridge was not worth repairing, and she could get a new fridge for less than a repair would cost so I waved my call out, but she would have none of it and said a cheques in the post and slammed the phone down.

I thought I was doing a kind deed but never ever done a free of charge call after.

I only used to reduce my call out to half price if the customer was elderly with a none repairable appliance.

Good luck to the plumber but lets hope he doesn’t come across a customer like mine or gets taken advantage of for his Kindness.

Yes cashed the cheque as I did not want another Abusive call and did not want to upset an old lady.

Still at least it was another £70 in the bank to make up for it.

I am glad no more having to put up with customers and now one long holiday going to nice places when the sun shines.

I can vouch for the joy’s of retirement . I have just spent a pleasant day in the sun at Old Trafford watching Lancs beat Middlesex. Now going up the road to the other Old Trafford to watch Man United in a Europa cup match. 🙂

Just come back from Brixham, spent three weeks at a campsite in the motorhome, £75/wk, better than £25/30 per week in some places. Decent showers as well, nice neighbours. Come back to the Miele mashing machine heater failed, have sent in a request for one, also the car went start due to flat battery, serves me right for not attaching the battery tender to it whilst away.
