freely rotating washing cycle switch problem?

Cycle switch on washing machine (ariston margherita 2000)..just keeps rotating freely through cycles without engaging..nothing seema to be blocked and so am at a loss as to what is occuring…need to know if this is a simple fix or a new machine is required..any urgent reply welcome…cheers Matt

Please post model number (bottom right of control panel), also count the flashes (ie, 1234, gap, repeating), as these ar a form of error finding code.
