ParticipantWe need to buy a separate freezer for allotment produce and large frozen goods (whole fish, large legs of meat etc). I know nothing about the dis/advantages of chest versus standing, or what points to consider when purchasing, or which makes have the best reputations & reliability. Can anyone point me in the right direction? We’re in a (very!) hot climate and suffer frequent powercuts: does that make any difference to which machine to buy? Many thanks in advance.

Hi Danneal,
Chest freezer is your only option IMO.
The temperature is more stable internally but make sure you buy one with the correct climate class for which this article may prove of use.
The biggest reason is that, if you have a power cut, a chest freezer will retain the temperature better than an upright freezer will, especially if you have to get something out. Apart from which, due to not having to work so hard, they are generally more reliable and last longer.

Thanks, Kwatt. Could you offer an opinion about which makes are best?

Been looking through the forum threads & discovered that Miele freezers are Liebherr made. What’s the difference in the products, in general terms? Are the specs for Mieles higher or lower generally than Liebherrs? Be grateful for any info.
And a big THANK YOU to those of you who’ve already responded, as well as to all who’ve made this great forum available to the likes of me. Can’t tell you what a help it’s been!

Hi Danneal
IIRC when the Liebherr rep was here a little while ago, it was a couple of fridge freezers that were made by them for Miele.
Liebherr chest freezer would still be my choice if you want the best 😉 .
