ParticipantHi all. Hope an expert may help.
Cutting a long story ..
I have an N rated American style in an unheated room which occasionally falls to 10-11degC and I want to keep it to ‘spec’ around 16-18degC. Hope to use a small 60w tubular electric heater at the back of the unit. I wonder a) if it will work b) which part (all of the back panel or only that above the compressor and vent) needs to be ‘warmed’.
I don’t want to waste by heating the whole room but I do wish to give appropriate temperature.
I would be so grateful for some guidance.

You’d need to heat the room I’m afraid, not just the rear of the unit as it is dependent on ambient temperature. Not the temperature in one small area.

Hi
I do appreciate your quick response. I guess its not the answer I wanted ! Not wishing to contradict your advice but merely to try to understand the issue – clearly the sides, in theory and insulated panels need no heating so I am trying to understand why SN rated units are able to operate in a lower temperature environment. If I better understand I hope to install minimal heating if possible.
Thanks againAugust 25, 2014 at 9:10 pm #418286Martin

The entire unit including the front, back, top and sides has to be situated within ambient temperatures above 16 degrees.

You need to keep the room at that temp as the sensors are located around the body of the appliance. Different temp zones mean the appliance insulation is different depth.

Many thanks. Guess no choice than a full room heat or change the appliance. Climate ratings are rarely made apparent to the consumer. Adverts are often wrong & misleading. Retailers have units rated across the whole range (some sn, some n, some sn-t, some just t. Samsung customer service staff seem to be unaware of these ratings and give innacurate info. I am being offered a replacement to an SN rated appliance or money back but I can’t find an equivalent model. The G-series is ideal for me but rated N. Cheers
