ParticipantIs there anyone out there who can help with info about the following: new frost-free fridge/freezer – lovely. BUT every time fridge door closes, freezer door pops open slightly. Falls shut again – but not firmly, and no ‘suction’ as I was used to from previous f/f (also Bosch), so not always closing 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} even though definitely no obstacles – evidence is frost layer in compartment. That then disappears because of frost-free (evaporation) function, but frost build-up stays in bags of frozen goods – gradual increase clearly observable. Also although f/f is supposed to have alarm and temperature display, no alarm sounds (it does when I open door wide for more than 30 secs, so is working) & temp drop is not shown on display at front. Had this f/f for about a month.
Engineer came out to check it. Said it’s because of air vents pushing air from fridge back into freezer, that there’s nothing wrong with the seal on the freezer door, and that as far as he’s concerned, the vaccuum is ‘fine’ (vaccuum on fridge is definitely as should be, freezer much much weaker). But he was obviously puzzled – rang tech support, who he said confirmed cause is air vent – recommendation was to raise front of f/f to ensure door always re-shuts. Problem not solved – still evidence of frosting due to door not always closing tightly after feet were raised. I’m not happy with the prospect of having to remember to push freezer door tight every time I open fridge – not to mention expecting three teenagers to do the same… and prospect of ‘just having to live with this’ when I thougth I’d bought good quality is very disappointing. Does anyone have any comment/suggestion about this? Has anyone come across this problem in this or similar models? Any info welcome – Thank You!

Hi there, re my first message: has anybody heard of something similar? I would really like to find out whether I ‘just have to live with it’, whether it’s a known problem in this model, whether there’s anything that can be done to remedy the problem.
So you dont’ have to read the whole long 1st mail: not enough suction on freezer door to keep it firmly shut, opens every time fridge door closes, has to be manually pressed each time to ensure tight seal, engineer says it’s ‘not a problem’ but evidence of regular icing up (indicating part-thaw) that only disappears because frost-free function removes it eventually.
Would be so grateful for any advice or others’ experience.
Cheers

run a hair dryer around the door seal to warm it up (carefull as too much heat will melt plastics) then shut door and leave for half an hour ! then give it a try

Hair dryer? Did your mom teach you that one? I know it’s a little late in the day for this thread, you’ve probably bought a better unit by now, like a Beko or an Indesit- LOL -I know, but I actually mean that! I discovered an hour ago that my 3 month old Bosch KGN34VL20G exhibits the exact same condition, although it took 3 de-frostings and as many arguments with my partner to find this out! During our final argument I was teaching my (as was clear at the time) “dumb-ass bird” how to shut a bloody freezer door, “all you need to do is take the handle in your hand and push the door firmly closed” I said, in doing so the fridge door opened. Hang on here I thought, lets try showing her how to shut the fridge door, and you’ve guessed it right? Fortunately she’s not one to hold a grudge, but I do, I will never trust the Bosch brand again. From an engineering background I had always recognised Bosch as being producers of well designed quality products, however my unit must have been designed by the chimpanzees in lab-coats division of the company.
When one door closes the other opens because a positive pressure is created in the the compartment being closed, historically this pressure would have released almost instantaneously via the seal or a release valve as the door was pushed closed. However, my unit has active air circulation and when the door closes the pressure takes this path out as it offers the least resistance, in turn transferring the positive pressure to the opposite compartment, opening it’s door just a little, you’d never spot it unless you were looking closely. This condition is symptom of a fundamental design flaw in my model, I can imagine it’s not the only one affected though.
So in answer, yes you will have to put up with it. The problem is impossible to fix without manufacturer intervention, but because it’s such a significant design flaw they have to fix or replace it, and I think but don’t quote me on it- even when it’s guarantee has expired??
Shame on you BOSCH, you’ve broken my heart. Lets see what they’re gonna do to fix it. -
