ParticipantHi
I have joined the forum in the hope that someone out there can give me a bit of help concerning a chest freezer.
I bought a Norfrost freezer – its just a small one as I live alone in a flat. It’s been running for one week and the noise is out of this world. It sounds like a cross between a tractor and a generator. I had a neighbour ask me if I am running a generator in my flat as she heard it coming home from work at 7 in the morning! I haven’t slept for days and am so tired I could cry.
I have called the company I bought it from and they are happy to collect it and refund the price which is great.
Now I have to buy another new one and am so afraid that it will be the same problem I thought I would ask here if anyone could shed some light and perhaps offer a bit of direction.
I have a limited budget and of course only want a small chest freezer. I have been looking at an Ice King CH1040 and also a Fridge Master MTCF353B. I dont see the point in calling those companies as they will only try and sell me their product.
Can anyone shed any light on either of these?
Thank you so much for any help or guidance you can offer.

Most noisy newly installed fridges or freezers which i’ve had to attend due to loud noise, i’ve found to still have the polystyrene packaging wedged above the compressor motor, which should be removed.

I’ve just pulled the freezer out and had a good look. There is no polystyrene anywhere.
I think i have bought a ‘lemon’. That’s why I’m wondering if the other two are any good?

Hi: How long did you leave the freezer after it was delivered & before plugging it in? Most companies advise at least 12 hours.
Sorry I can’t give you any advice on the other 2 brands but i’ve never seen either, Beko also sell some quite good value small freezers.February 13, 2011 at 3:42 pm #344281pipistroller

Hi
I left the freezer for 24 hours before plugging it in. As far as I can see there is no reason for the terrible noise apart from the fact that its not a good make. I have looked on the web concerning other Norfrost freezers and there are a lot of comments about the noise.
Good thing is that I have 28 days in which I can return it which is why I am looking at the other two makes and trying to find out anything I can about them.

If i were you I would definately ask them to collect the item & give you a full re-fund as soon as possible. If they don’t give you any joy then mention your County Trading standards office to them, that will usually do the trick.
