I have a freezer that is 3 years old which won’t freeze. I don’t know the make or model as it was in my house when I bought it – no markings. It was switched off for 3 months last summer and hasn’t worked since. The temperature is set to max and I’ve tried fast freeze but it doesn’t even get cold and the warning beep/light is constantly on. I’ve heard if you turn it upside down the gas will redistribute and it should work – is there any truth in it?

    Thanks

Absolutely NOT! That was advice for the old ammonia type fridges which were prone to blockages in the system that could be shifted by up-ending them.

Firstly you need to establish if the compressor makes any noise at all….after having left it off for 30 mins or so, turn it back on and have a good listen (ear to the cabinet if necessary) and let us know if you hear anything at all?

    Re: Freezer not working

if the fast freeze is on , and it still dont work.. gotta be either short of gas or a faulty compressor , right? since the fast freeze switch over-rides the thermostat, makes sense

    hope this helps
