I recently bought a second hand fridge freezer and the freezer doesn’t work. I transported it on its side but then left it standing for a couple of weeks in my garage pending a house move. The movers had it upright in their van and we left it 24 hours before switching it on when we moved in. The fridge was fine but the freezer is completely dead.
Having left it for a further week, switing the freezer on periodically to see if would work (it has separate switches for the fridge and freezer), I spoke to an engineer friend who suggested lying it on its back for 5 minutes. It seemed a long shot so I tried it last night – still nothing.
It was working when we bought it, and I’d hate to see it go if I can save it. Grateful for any suggestions.

I’ve taken a closer look at this. The left hand compressor (looking at the back) seems to be the one for the freezer and it is much hotter than the fridge compressor. It is too hot to leave your hand in contact with…..does this suggest that it has lost gas?

If it is too hot then is there a hissing noise from anywhere?.other than that it could be you have laid the unit on the wrong side when your moved it and have caused an blockage when the oil has gone into the high side.
And yes there is a right side for transporting lying down.(well if it has to be laid down).Bryan
