    Hi all,

We recently bought a second-hand freezer. The previous owners kindly delivered it to us in their car. They stored it on its side during transport and the journey would likely have been about 20 minutes long. My partner turned it on after a few minutes of it arriving at the house (so it had probably been upright for about 15 minutes) and it wasn’t until later that we realised the potential mistake.

The freezer has been working fine for the last day or two. However, I’ve heard that freezers should be placed upright for a number of hours after being transported on their side. My question now is – should we unplug the freezer, let it warm up, wait for the oil to drain, etc.? Or would any potential damage already have been done (or already manifested itself somehow)?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

if its ok now you have probably got away with it
the problem lies with the pick up pipe for the compressor picking up oil instead of the refrigerant gas. if it does, since the oil wont compress it just jams up, and never to runs again

Thanks Dave, that’s reassuring news. And good to know why it does it!
