KeymasterHiya, hope you can help me and my freezer. I inherited the scandinova about 4 years ago, we think it must be 6+ years old in total. My fridge works just fine, but recently my freezer has started to throw a wobbly regarding the temperature. I have put a thermometer in there and one minute it shows -20 then I go again a few hours later and it can be +5 and the ice cubes have melted !! There is a rocker switch on the top that you can see when you open the fride compartment which is either set to ‘S’ or ‘O’ – seeing as I have never had any instructions with this appliance I presume the ‘S’ if for superfreeze ????? So its normally on ‘O’ but I have now turned it to ‘S’ and the freezer hs kicked in again. Do I keep it on’S’ or do I start looking for another freezer ??? PLEASE HELP as I’m 3 months pregnant and need to be organised. XX
Sorry – forgot to mention the model number – FF6745D
Any help would be appreciated.

OK, taking in to account the time scale since you posted the query.
What has happended since the switch was left on “S” ?

Hi Dave, thanks for replying considering its bank holiday weekend. Just been to check and the temperature is -22.
The rocker switch is still on ‘s’.May 1, 2005 at 4:52 pm #133456Dave_Conway

Good, it sounds like it’s just the thermostat then as it proves the system is working so it shouldn’t prove too scostly to put right.
The S switch is fast freeze which basically bypasses the thermostat and makes the unot run continuously (not recommended for extended periods).
Have a look for an engineer in repairs@ and the directories, failing that, pop up your postcode and I’ll see if I have anyone I can recommend near you.

Thanks Dave, I like the sound of it not being too costly 😀
Can you give me any idea on a rough cost just so that I am slightly prepared, I would be very greatful.
Postcode is S81, Worksop, Notts.
Thanks again,
Sarah

How long do you recommend I leave it on fastfreeze in any one time period ?
And how long do I switch it back to ‘normal’ for, obviously keeping the door closed as I dont want unfrozen food 😀

OK, here’s a link for a repairer:
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … ent&tid=57
Costs vary to be honest, between £60 and £80 as a *very* rough guide.
Don’t leave it on for too long, two or three hours then switch back to normal for a two or three etc etc. Overnight, leave it off, it should stay frozen for 12 hours as long as the door seal is OK.

Dave, has anyone ever told you that you are a living legend ?
THANKYOU SO MUCH for all your help and advice, it is very appreciated.
I will visit the link you sent me and get something sorted sooner rather than later.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend 😀
