    Unusual one.

    E40 fault (E41 in diagnosis mode which I retrieved after repair)
    Lock/wiring everything else seems fine.
    Puzzled, sat having a cup of coffee with builder who has just demoslished the wall next to the WM….
    Two pen knives on the work top above the machine…

    The plot thickens…. a coffee and bit of chatting – 10 minutes later, problem solved.

    E41=door open.
    Wall fell on washer, leaving cabinet distorted so door would not close properly. Builder tried to get door off to rectify but didn’t have torx bits so tried various penknives. Gave up and called you. Easy really.

    OK. He got door off, bent it back into shape, then put it back skewiff.
    Or, machine was resting unevenly on floor causing door to be out.
    How much blood was on the floor?

    not quite mr mocking…

    The blood came afterwards…

    At some time during the building works the machine took a knock on the third option button L-R – the button was jammed hard home and would not come out.

    Noticing the error of their ways, some one used the blades of the two pen knives to prize the buttom back in to line with the others. However, unbeknown to them, it left the tactile switch permanently on.

    It was this that caused it to show an E40 error… Abit of jiggling about and all sorted.. nice quick little earner.

    Took my money and left the customer and builder to fight it out afterwards…

    That’s really good. As you said, I was almost there with my guess :innocent: . Anyway, it’s a really useful lesson. Next time I come upon a Zanussi E40 next to a ruined wall and two penknives I won’t have to stand around puzzling for long :tright: .
