Fride Freezer high running cost and condensation ontop.

Hello all.

I am having some issues with my Hotpoint Ice diamond fridge freezer 70/30.
model is RF10W
no 23102278
R134a

I have been running it through a power meter lately to see how much power it consumed and it seems very high.
When it kicks in it’s using about 140w and in 15 days has consumed 24kW and cost £6.98 at the current 0.29p kW/h rate.

I also get a lot of water forming on the top of the freezer unit. (see link as I don’t have enough quota to attach)

Is this just a very inefficient model or is there something wrong with it?

I have tried turning the thermostat up to a point where the temperature inside the fridge is around 5c but the power consumption remains the same.

condensation on the outside of a fridge or freezer means the insulatiion is breaking down and its trying to cool the room.

that means its less efficient and will cost more to run

There are more knowledgeable people on here, but all that condensation on the top suggests to me that it is working overly hard to keep the temperature down. That could be due to the insulation failing or low refrigerant in the system. Either would likely be uneconomic to fix on an old appliance.
