I’m looking for some advice on choosing a fridgefreezer. We need a big one as there are eight in our family so I assumed an American style side by side would be best for us? I’m concerned that these need to plumbed in though? I really don’t nees the ice/chilled water function these have, so is it possible to get one without or just not plumb it in? Finally, what’s a reliable brand that’s not too expensive?

Many thanks for any advice, Ness.

    Hi Ness

There are a few models out there which don`t have the ice / water facility. There is a good guide on American machines here however I would look at getting a large larder fridge with matching freezer alongside probably 1.8 metres high by 60cm wide would give you more storage, no ice/ water which you say you don`t need anyway. You can always change the door opening on one machine to give that “American” effect as well.

Bosch and Liebherr would be our choices of appliances for quality and reliability but they don`t come cheap 😉

Thanks for that Don, unfortunately I only have 91cm to fit it in which will rule out a pair of appliances. the link you posted is very interesting – I wonder if the admirals need extra space for their doors to open?!

    Hi ness

Oh well it was worth considering the two single option 😉 I`m not sure about the door opening on the Amana but this link may help. Products and contact details and all useful info there .
