For the last two years we have spent Christmas and new year abroad. On both occasions we have come home to find that our frost free fridge/freezer has defrosted while we were away. The first year we found it defrosted, ruining the contents. This year it had defrosted but resumed operation, a bag of ice cubes turned into an ice mass, fortunately we left it with reduced stock so not too expensive. On both occasions we did nothing and the fridge freezer continued working normally. We always turn the heating off while we are away, and we live in the north east. Is it possible that any low temperatures could affect the operation of the cooling system?
Thank you for your replies. Next year we’ll have to leave fridge freezer empty as restocking is probable cheaper than providing suitable heating for 3 weeks. The boiler has a frost setting, but that’s below the published temperature range.
