Hello, I’m looking for some help with a Miele KFN 12924 SD GB Index 164-20A. It’s at least 14 years old and has been fine until the last few weeks.

The freezer was cold but the fridge not coming down to temperature. I noticed the circulation fan was not working like it used to (open door, fan is spinning but comes to a stop).
Having read a few posts and websites I tried the following:
    Check fan can turn: yes.
Check behind rear panel in freezer to make sure not frosted up: not frosted up.
Change temp setting: no change to fridge temperature or fan.
Replace fridge air sensor: Miele now send out an evaporator sensor to replace this, it seems. Whilst waiting for sensor to arrive we switched the fridge part off. The freezer maintained the set temperature very well.

Having replace the evaporator sensor as per the instructions privided by Miele, I now have the following:
The freezer now cools below it’s set temperature.
The fridge is also cooling below set temp, as low as -0.5 when set to 7°C. The rear panel in the fridge is showing frosted, which is the first time I’ve seen that.
The cooling fan in the top still does not seem to spin and come to a stop when I open the door like it used to.

I’m trying to figure out what the next best step is. Do I replace the fan motor? Is this going to be a control board issue? Should I just get a technician out? Should I just replace the fridge/freezer (which seems daft if I can fix this one/get it fixed).

    Thanks for any sensible advice.

without the fan the unit wont function as designed. it will probably need the fan to push the cold air into the fridge so if that not working the fan might well be the reason but fridges are not my area of expertise

Also it is highly likely this fridge is made by Liebherr and rebadged Miele so the parts should be cheaper if you go down that route

Your second post, reference temperature readings, indicate the unit is running normally, the rear wall of the fridge will freeze over and once at tempertaure it will go through an off cyle defrost, the temperature as monitored in the freezer and is read by the sensor at the warmest place ensuring the freezer reaches a safe temperature at that place which means other areas can be much colder.
The circulation fan in the fridge coming on is dependant on three conditions, temperature at sensor, compressor and cooling to fridge on and door shut.
Again you will get low temperatures in the fridge prior to cutting out, its to maintain an average temperature of your setting, average = cut out and cut in temp.

    Hi
My problem is now that the milk freezes in the fridge door overnight, the vegetables in the veg drawer are freezing, and the cheese comes out with ice crystals on it, and even the yogurt comes out as frozen yogurt slush.
Sometimes the temperature in the fridge drops to -4°C.

Sorry, but you need to be precise on what you did, you said you were advised to replae the fridge AIR sensor but then said you replaced the EVAPORATOR sensor, can you clarify which one you changed, there are 4 sensors on this unit 2 in each compartment.
The fridge AIR will turn the compressor off and switch the solenoid valve to freezer only operation, the compressor may continue to run if the freezer is not at cut off temperature, if it is the compressor will stop.
Too cold in the fridge is either AIR sensor faulty or solenoid valve not switching.

Apologies. I thought I had been clear:

Replace fridge air sensor: Miele now send out an evaporator sensor to replace this, it seems. Whilst waiting for sensor to arrive we switched the fridge part off. The freezer maintained the set temperature very well.
In other words when you ask for a replacement sensor for the fridge, Miele recommended replacereplacement put an evaporator sensor in. The instructions are quite clear when you receive the package and when I spoke to the helpline.

You take the AIR sensor out and put a new sensor in which lies against the back panel of the fridge. There is a new replacement cover to hold it in place.

Then you have replaced the evaporator sensor, the original one would of had a green making near the sensor end, the air sensor is marked red and is located in the bracket which you would have had to replace to fit the new evaporator sensor as the original evaporator sensor is foamed in. sounds like you have replaced the wrong sensor.
