I have a 12 year-old fridge/freezer. I have now found that it gets to only 10 deg C in the fridge and -10 deg C in the freezer.
Is this due to old age? Can it be fixed cheaply?

    Many thanks,

    peter

It is probably the compressor starting to struggle with age. Yes it could be repaired, it depends on how much you wish to spend. To supply and fit a compressor is an expensive job and you would have to get some quotes locally as different engineers charge different prices. The only other thing to keep in mind is that it could be a refrigerant leak in the system, but with an older fridge less likely as they used better quality components. This is not repairable. The only why to tell is to get an FRIDGE engineer to access the system and do a pressure test. but that will cost. That is the gamble you have to take to be sure.

last one I had like this was I need of cleaning the air intake out at the bottom of the unit,
it was full of dust pet hairs etc that had gathered over the years and I ended up moving it outside and putting a airline on it! it worked great after that. The dust smothered the intercooler behind the vent.
