I have just got a flat that the previous owner has left a Beko FC140 6.0 cubic ft fridge freezer (60/40 I think) in the small galley kitchen.
The fridge freezer is in the corner of the kitchen under the combi boiler with about 10cm clearance above and behind it, but the left hand side in only about 1cm from the wall and the RH side is touching the counter top and unit housing the washing machine. (Looking at the manufacture booklet ideally there should be 10cm clearance all round. )

Unsurprisingly when we switched the fridge on for around an hour the sides got incredibly hot to the point where I was concerned about fire risk so I’ve switched it off and relocated fridge to lounge. Not sure whether to try it there a see if same thing happens with more clearance it doesn’t look in the best condition underneath..

I assumed all the heat generated by a Fridge freezer would escape from the back perhaps I am mistaken. moving forward I will probably get a newer model anyway. Has anyone got any recommendations for a fridge freezer which could be effective in this sort of confined space or do I need to relocate the unit? (Not easy without considerable kitchen redesign).

The max dimensions for the current corner kitchen location are width 50cm to pipes along wall and height 137cm to boiler

    any advice most welcome

there is no fire risk. the temp of the sides could never reach the sort of temperatures to cause ignition

if the unit was turned off and you just re started it then all that heat from inside has to be moved. result the sides get hot. once its got to temp then the motor only runs to cover losses so it will not get as hot

you would need to find a unit that gets rid of the heat at the rear and that would still need ventilation to make it efficient

Trouble is you are very restricted as to what will go into that small space.

All refrigeration now has to have a flame retardent back so the chance of a fire is extremely small. I would see if there is anothe Beko available or if budget allows Liebherr may do one.
