ParticipantBosch logix frost free upright fridge freezer

refrigerent 350cc of R600aHi all,
I have had a problem with the freezer for about 1 month. I set the temp to -26c but the freezer only gets to -18c. the fridge stays at +5c no prob. The motor cuts in and out occasionally and apart from getting a little louder in the last 2 months (its 5 years old after all) there doesn’t seem to be any other indications.
The alarm sounded recently and when we checked the freezer was at -5c. Apon closer inspection the mains lead had caught in the fan blades and i think the motor had overheated and cut out. When the fan was freed everything worked fine but the freezer still only managed to get down to -18c.Any ideas appreciated
Dave.

to be honest , -18*C is the reccommended freezer temp on a Bosch freezer anyways . First thing i would do is a complete de-frost of the freezer as the evaporator may be iced up . Empty the freezer , switch off the appliance , open the freezer door and leave for 48hrs , leaving plenty of towels round the base and keeping an eye on the water level in the clear container that sits above the compressor at the rear ( you may find lots of de-frost water appearing )
After 48hrs , switch appliance back on and see how it goes from there .
Hopefully , this will solve your probFebruary 27, 2007 at 11:48 am #205585davehayleigh

Hi again.
ok, got plans from Bosch web site and took freezer apart whilst defrosting. All components seemed to test ok. Once defrosted switched back on with panels off. Evaporator frosted up all after about 1/2 an hour over so i think the gas is ok. Switched off and replaced panels. when switched back on display stuck at -6c with compressor running. Switched off and on again, display now showed -18c and compressor not switching on(clicking/twanging twice but not coming on). Switched off/on yet again, display now reads 0c and falling with compressor running.
Starting to suspect the board.Dave

Hi
If you switch compressor off you must leave it for at least 10 mins before switching back on or compressor will stall ,and could be damaged.

Hi all,
Thanks for the advice. Freezer still only goes down to -18c but i guess that will have to do. I’ll just have to keep an eye on it, but will bring home my calibrated meter from work to check -18c is the true figure as i dont entirely trust the display now.

Hi all,
Have just sorted the problem !!!!!!!It was a slightly seized brass bearing in the fan in the freezer section. Dismantled fan, eased bearing tested fan – blew like a gale.
Freezer now working as if new!
Thanks for the hints/tips
Dave.
