Fridge/Freezer stopped working but light still on inside ?

Hey my fridge/freezer has stopped working and is defrosting but when i open the fridge door the lgiht comes on ?

Can it still be rescued or will i need to purchase a new fridge/freezer ?

There was still a buzzing noise until i tried tunring it off and back on, once i turned it back on it made a click noise and now there is no buzzing noise at all.

i take it that was the compressor ?

sounds like compressor has seized, the click is it tripping out on the overload cut-out
