We have a second fridge-freezer which is technically outside, although sheltered from the elements.

When the weather gets cold, temperatures down to single figures (not even freezing), the freezer stops freezing and anything in it ends up thawing. The fridge keeps working although that too seems not to be as cold as it should be.

Is there anything I can do about this? It did it last winter too but started working normally once the weather warmed up in spring.

    Hi Brian

This is an ongoing issue every winter with fridge freezers either in sheds / garages or unheated conservatories. In your case as it’s technically outside the only thing you could do in this instance would be to bring the appliance indoors during the cold spells.

A full article here in our advice section explains the issue in greater detail.

    HTH 🙂

Cheers gents. That’s helpful. At least I know it’s not a malfunction as such. Beery christmas!

Apart from moving to southern Spain, not much you can do although keeping a 2ltr milk bottle and fill with fairly warm water, pop it in the fridge every morning/evening giving it something to do and it will probably help keep it ticking over.
